Input Needed

Okay, I need some input/suggestions.  No, I am not pregnant nor will I give away when we are going to start trying as I don't anyone know that we are pregnant till after the first trimester.  Brandon says that will not happen, but I would like to really try to stick with that as those first few months are not easy.

Now on to my request... what do you feel are some of the best things to do to prepare for conceiving, and how early should you start?  I want to make sure that I am ready, and that my body is as prepared as it can be.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hey Angela! I hope you don't mind me writing here... I was just thinking about some things that I had wished I had better prepared for pregnancy. First, I wish I had been in better shape before I got pregnant. Mostly in terms of cardio. I had been doing ok before I got pregnant, but no matter what I found that pregnancy puts you back several steps, and for me that meant I was on my back sick and exhausted and simply did not have it in me to even go walking. I think if I had been in better shape, I wouldn't have been knocked quite so far back, and maybe could have at least maintained a walking schedule, which would have helped me not be so uncomfortable in the later trimesters. Of course, you never know with morning sickness (and I was pretty sick my whole pregnancy), but being decent shape before hand really helped.

The other thing that came to mind was to start taking pre-natals at least a few months before you plan to conceive, for the folic acid. I didn't, and I spent my whole pregnancy worried that I had hurt my baby. Of course I didn't, but I wish I could have not had that nagging worry.

Other than that, pregnancy is just so different for everyone. I was sic the whole time (not just the first trimester), and I only gained about 9 pounds by the time I delivered. But lots of other people are way different. Anyway, it's exciting! (Oh, yeah, and I'd purchase pregnancy tests BEFORE hand... nothing like wanting to know RIGHT THEN if you're pregnant and having to wait to run to the store... No fun!). Yay for Angela!

  2. I would basically agree. Enjoy your body! It will be a while before you get it back. Treat it well by eating good and exercising. And take prenatal vitamins. I would also get a list of medications that you are not supposed to take when pregnant and not take them for the two weeks or so that you are wondering if you are before your period starts or should start. And ovulation tests are great its taking longer than you want or just want to get it right ASAP. And sometimes they say to get off birth control 3 months before you want to conceive but if you are just going wih he flow of things then I don't think it's necessary. If you really want to try for a particular month I mitt get off early and use another form of birth control. Just remember it only takes once to get pregnant but sometimes it feels like that once will never come! If you try for a while and can't get pregnant I would recommend going to a dr for preliminary testig after 6 months. It's not a fertility problem until you have tried for a year but sometimes it's nice to get a problem cleared up earlier if here is one. Hope this helps! I think this is interesting stuff so feel free to ask more q. :) And sorry for typos. I'm on my itouch.

  3. Oh and you may believe you are ready but when you pee on that stick and it says positive you will probably not feel ready. Relax. You still have 9 months to feel ready again. ;)

  4. Hey! So, I've been reading up and all because it's about time we stop delaying since we've been married 5 years and I'll finally be completely finished with school in May! :)

Anyway, do start taking prenatal vitamins before you start trying - at least a month before. Some people say 3 months and some say a month. So, at least a month. :) You can get the over the counter ones, but then a doctor will give you prescription ones that aren't as expensive. Fish oil is also important because it helps with brain development; however, you have to get the good kind (make sure there is no mercury, etc. in the supplement).

Start charting your basal body temperature and weight if you want to keep track for your cycle that way.

Also, my doctor told me to stop birth control the month I want to try because you can get pregnant the first month. There's a lot of debate about that, so talk to your doctor and decide what y'all want to do.

Get in the habit of getting the food you need - vegetables and fruit every day :)

I'm trying to think of everything I've read. There's really a lot of information out there, and it's all about finding out what works for you! :)

    Good luck! :)
